Publish 071020, better late than never!

OK, I know, the date claims the publish was scheduled for October 20th. And yes it is the day before Halloween but better late than never is our story and we're sticking to it.

Before I throw out all the technical info about this weeks publish I would just like to point out a couple cool things that have been going on here at Dexrex the last few weeks.
The company thought it would be a cool idea to encourage every employee here to go to Gold's Gym, which is pretty BAD ASS. So this entire week 80% of us have been going down to the gym every night and killing ourselves. After a few days it was clear some of us needed this more than others. Crazilly(yea i know that's not a word) enough I didn't think it was possible for a group of programmers to want to sit in chairs more than they already do; but since everyone was so sore no one minded sitting in their chairs for 8 hours a day every day this week.
Since it's the week of Halloween our Graphics Designer(Dan Lucey), decided it would be funny to dress all of us up into virtual Halloween costumes. If you want to take a look at what he did to us you can click here.

Alright now down to the publish stuff. Initially this publish was going to include much more, however we plan on rolling out a totally new look very soon. Therefore we held a lot of the content back until then since it would have to be re-worked anyways.
Things we did do include a fix for Scribe which didn't allow Skype messages to be uploaded under certain circumstances. This problem is fixed and Skype users can now rest assured their messages are being uploaded properly again.
For any Facebookers out there we did a whole bunch for you. Our Facebook application has gotten bigger and cooler. We've added a slew of new stats for the user to show off to their friends. As well as the ability to choose which stats friends can see on the profile page.
There was also some major behind the scenes front end refactoring, which no one will notice except for us when we finish working on the new layout.

That's about it for this publish. We don't have a date set in stone for the next one but it's coming soon and it's going to be BIG so get ready.

-Have fun,
Cam

Release 071012

Ok, awesome, so we spend all day fixing Google Talk and Jabber screen name claiming only to discover there's a problem in Dexrex Scribe that causes the messages not to be uploaded. So you can totally go and claim all your Jabber and Google Talk screen names and look at how pretty they are, and that's about it. But hey, Monday is coming :)

Release 071001

Ok, so, we haven't updated this sucker in forever. That's because we've been crazy busy. Since our last post we successfully survived a round of angel funding, built up about a 10 person company, rented out a tiny little store front as an office, went out of 'alpha' (you may notice we retroactively changed from being in beta to being in alpha), declared 'beta', started marketing, moved into a big real office on a second floor above a bank, started getting about 5 new accounts per day on average, and are now closing a second round of financing to build up a 15-20 person team. Whew.

So this brings us to now. A lot has changed in our product over the months, and a lot more is planned to change. We make a new release every 1-3 weeks, and half the time, you wouldn't even notice the changes. So I figure we should start making a blog post after each publish so that the curious Dexrex member can keep savvy. Hopefully I'll con some of the other product team people to sound off in the blog.

Release "071001", cleverly named after the date we started the release, Oct 1st, 2007... Mainly we focused on adding some interaction to the Facebook plugin. People can now customize their 'word counts', and put in things like "yeah dude", "kitty", "puppy", or whatever you want --- that is, whatever you want that is an actual word and not symbols like :). And yeah, we totally forgot to add in something that TELLS you that :) doesn't work. Umm, next release, lawls.

Also we fixed a pretty major bug in the sign up in Internet Explorer that caused screen names to not actually be claimed. This has only been around a few weeks thankfully. Surprisingly the number of accounts with no screen names has gone DOWN despite our user growth, so that must mean we're doing something right.

Next release is "071020" meaning we hope to publish by the 20th, but it often takes days because we are so awesome our server can't always handle how awesome we are. It may or may not include a new cleaner look, the ability to upload logs from other IM clients, a new Scribe, fixing some timing problems, a more obvious privacy policy, and a better orientation process.
